October 1, 2014 The Georgina Trades Training Inc. (GTTI) Smart Serve course provides participants with the skills for serving alcohol in a safe manner and as it pertains to the current liquor laws in the Province of Ontario. October 1 - 4, 2014 Fire Prevention Week 2014 is themed "Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives: Test Yours Every Month". Georgina Fire Department will be hosting three free Open House events which will include a BBQ, fire equipment demonstrations, auto extrication, home escape planning, firefighter gear dress up, giveaways, educational information, and a visit from Sparky! October 2, 2014 The Georgina Trades Training Inc. (GTTI) YorkSafe Food Handler program is designed for anyone working in the food industry or interested in learning about food safety. October 3, 2014 The Georgina Trades Training Inc. (GTTI) Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) course teaches the comprehensive national system for safe management of hazardous chemicals which is legislated by both the Federal and Provincial government. October 5, 2014 Monthly Community Drum Circles: All are welcome to join Rhythmic by Nature and Shaw Percussion for an afternoon of self-expression, community, learning, and playing at De La Salle - Chapel (1940 Metro Road E., Jackson's Point ) from 2 - 3:30 p.m. every first Sunday of the month. October 6, 2014 Emerald Ash Borer Workshop for Woodlot Owners: Ash trees in York Region are dying because of Emerald Ash Borer (EAB), an invasive insect that attacks and kills ash trees. October 8, 2014 Financial Empowerment Program - The Women's Centre of York Region is offering a series of 5 weekly classes and personalized coaching. October 18, 2014 Georgina Trades Training Inc. (GTTI): The You Can 2!! Canning Workshop is a Nourishing Possibilities Program through the Georgina Community Food Pantry and GTTI. This four hour hands-on workshop will develop attendees knowledge of home preserving using the most popular method, water bath canning. October 19-25, 2014 In celebration of Ontario Public Library Week, Georgina Public Libraries will be holding a number of "Libraries Inspire" themed events and activities. Keswick Branch: National Film Board of Canada Screening of Where I Belong on October 22 at 7 p.m. Telling Our Stories Cultural Festival - Join the Library and many community partners for storytelling, films, demonstrations, exhibits celebrating diverse cultures and heritage, special guest Storyteller Dan Yashinsky, and much more on October 25 from 1 - 4 p.m. view the Telling Our Stories poster for more information. October 20 - 21, 2014 The Georgina Trades Training Inc. (GTTI) two-day First Aid/CPR course will provide participants with the basics in first aid & CPR and defibrillator training. October 20 - 26, 2014 The Town of Georgina has proclaimed October 20 - 26, 2014 as Waste Reduction Week. For this week, the Waste & Recycling Division is challenging local residents and businesses to team up in an effort reduce the amount of solid waste Georgina produces from the 2014 monthly average of 350 tonnes to 275 tonnes for the month of October. This goal is achievable if each household and business puts out only ONE bag of garbage on their regular collection day during the week of October 20th. Participants may show their support by placing an I participated in Waste Reduction Week 2014 sticker on their one bag of garbage! Numbers will be reported to see how many tonnes are produced. Stickers may be received at Georgina Public Libraries, Stephen Leacock Theatre, and the Civic Centre at the Operations & Engineering Counter beginning on Monday, September, 29, 2014.

October 25, 2014 Community Planting in Keswick - Join us for some fall fun from 9 am to noon to help beautify your neighbourhood and improve the health of the Maskinonge River!
