Doors Open Ontario
Since it was introduced in 2002, the Ontario Heritage Trust's Doors Open Ontario program has created access,
awareness and excitement about the province's heritage.
Doors Open Ontario plays an important role in helping communities to redefine and celebrate their heritage,
strengthen and encourage local partnerships, bolster local volunteers, and stimulate tourism and the local
economy. Ongoing research conducted by the Trust has also confirmed that Doors Open Ontario is a significant
stimulus for the promotion of civic pride, attracting increased media attention, and raising the profile of
local sites, businesses and heritage organizations.
Doors Open Ontario now includes 200 communities, and provides public access to approximately 1,200 heritage
sites across the province. Since 2002, over three million visits have been recorded.
