Accessibility Advisory Committee Media Release
Established under the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, the Accessibility Advisory Committee announces its web page within the Town of Georgina's web site is now operational ( www.town.georgina.on.ca ). The site includes an email link for those wishing to send comments or concerns to the Committee ( accessibility@georgina.ca ). The web site will continue to be developed in the future to communicate the Town's work.
The Committee prepares accessibility plans for the Town and provides recommendations to Town Council on improving accessibility for all persons to Town buildings bought, built or renovated by the Municipality. The Committee will also provide recommendations to Town Council on site plan developments as required by the Act.
JoAnn Lewis is Committee Chair and Phyllis Baines Lewis is Vice Chair. The Act requires that the majority of persons on the Committee be persons with disabilities. Members of the Committee are Ken Hackenbrook, Councillor; Shelagh Fitzgerald; Darlene Peebles and Norma Rye.
The Committee regularly meets on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 9:30 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Georgina Civic Centre. The Committee welcomes any person who wishes to attend the Committee meetings.
The Committee welcomes input from the community in this very important work. A public information program is under development.
