Ward 1 Councillor Naomi Davison selected to fill Regional Council seat for the Town of Georgina
Georgina Town Council has appointed Ward 1 Councillor Naomi Davison to fill the York Regional Council seat declared vacant following the passing of Danny Wheeler earlier this month.
Councillor Davison will fill the Regional Council seat for the remainder of the 2014 – 2018 municipal term.
“I am humbled to have been selected to represent Georgina residents and businesses at the Regional level,” said Councillor Davison. “While no one can ever replace Regional Councillor Danny Wheeler, I will make every attempt to follow the excellent example that he set for us all.”
“Naomi has served Georgina extremely well as a ward councillor and I am confident that she will be a welcome addition at the Regional Council table,” said Georgina Mayor Margaret Quirk.
The Regional Municipality of York was apprised of Councillor Davison’s appointment.
Councillor Davison’s Ward 1 seat will be declared vacant. A process for filling the Ward 1 seat will be discussed at Town Council in the coming weeks.
Davison is serving her second term on Town Council, having first been elected in 2010.
She has served as a member of numerous Town committees, including the Safe Streets Committee, Economic Development Committee, Georgina Community Health Care Committee, Thane Smelter Committee, Georgina Public Library Board and was the Town’s representative at the Georgina Chamber of Commerce.
Councillor Davison resides in Keswick with her husband, Stuart, and their two daughters, Katie and Lucy.
