Get involved in Georgina’s 2022 Budget process

The Town is developing the 2022 Budget and wants to hear from you. Georgina passes a budget every year to determine how funds are given out throughout the community. Tax dollars go towards a variety of programs and services which your family relies on and uses every day – from snow clearing and waste collection to road work and recreation programs.

In 2022, property tax increases may once again be impacted by increased pressures related to the COVID-19 pandemic, economic recovery and investing in infrastructure.

Did you know for every dollar Georgina collects in property taxes, just 52 cents stays with the Town? The rest goes to the Region of York and the Ministry of Education. The Town is inviting residents to get involved in the budget process and provide feedback:

  • Visit georgina.ca/budget to take the online survey beginning Sept. 7. Tell us how your tax dollars should be invested by completing our online survey and be entered to win one of two $100 Visa gift cards. The contest is open to Georgina residents and business owners who are 18 years of age or older. Town staff are not eligible to participate.
  • Hard copies of the budget survey will be available at the Georgina Farmers’ Market on Sunday, Sept. 12 and Sunday, Sept. 19 for residents to fill out.
  • Provide feedback via email to budget@georgina.ca by submitting ideas, comments or questions.

Public input is a vital component to the budget process. The deadline for the survey is Sept. 22 and the results will be included as part of the draft budget presented to Council on Oct. 27. Council budget deliberations take place on Nov. 30 and Dec.1. For more information and to stay up to date on the budget, visit georgina.ca/budget.
