Investigation concluded into graffiti at Georgina Park

Officers with the York Regional Police #3 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have concluded the investigation into graffiti at a park in the Town of Georgina after two children confessed to being responsible.

Shortly after 8 a.m., on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, police were called to Constable Garrett Styles Park, in the area of Laurendale Avenue and Terrell Avenue, for a report of offensive graffiti. When officers arrived, they found areas of the park and equipment vandalized.

On Tuesday, March 22, 2022, officers were called to a residence in Georgina after two children confessed to being responsible. Both children were spoken to by police and were remorseful for their actions. Due to their ages, one of the children was given a warning and consequences were discussed with the child’s family. The older of the two was eligible to be referred to the community referral program through the Youth Criminal Justice Act, which provides for alternative resolutions for youth who have committed a criminal offence.

We thank the community for the support in this investigation and encourage parents to have ongoing dialogue with their children on how such actions can have a broad impact on the community.
