LSRCA - Flood watch

You are here

The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority advises that the Surface Water Monitoring Centre is forecasting a significant weather system across the watershed beginning Friday afternoon and extending into Sunday, Jan. 12, 2020.

Strong winds, heavy rain and periods of freezing rain are expected. The forecasted rainfall amounts range from 25 to 65 mm, with the heaviest rainfall occurring on Saturday.

Widespread precipitation, warmer temperatures and associated snowmelt coupled with frozen ground conditions will result in higher than normal water levels and flows in our rivers and streams. The combination of slippery and unstable banks and cold water temperature will create hazardous conditions close to any river, stream or other water bodies, especially in the vicinity of culverts and bridges.

There is a possibility for flooding in various low-lying areas of the watershed due to the expected rainfall and melting of the snow pack.

Extreme caution should be exercised around all water bodies. Children and pets should be kept away from all watercourses.

This Flood Watch will be in effect through Jan. 13, 2020, or until otherwise updated.
