The Town of Georgina is inviting local artists and art teams of all ages to submit artwork to be used for the 2021 summer Street Banner Program. This pilot program is intended to showcase the talents of local artists and reflect the culture, heritage, vibrancy, and creativity of the municipality.
“We are excited to be able to provide this type of platform to showcase the artistic talents of some of our local residents,” said Mayor Margaret Quirk. “Public art contributes to a community’s identity and can foster a sense of civic pride, while also enhancing our quality of life. We look forward to having these new banners placed throughout the Town to beautify our community and serve as a reminder that together we are Georgina Strong.”
Art students, artists and designers in Georgina are invited to submit proposed street banner designs by April 2, 2021 that could be displayed throughout the Town between May and September 2021.
The theme of the banners in 2021 is – Georgina Strong (COVID-19 recovery and community support). A total of six submissions will be selected. The successful artists will also receive an honorarium of $150 and their submissions will be promoted on the Town’s website and social media channels.
The program was created to beautify high-traffic corridors and historic business areas within the Town. It is just one of the initiatives that supports the beautification of streetscapes for residents and visitors to enjoy, while also helping create a sense of community pride.
