Should cannabis be available for retail purchase in Georgina? That is the question Town Council is hoping you can help answer.
On Oct. 17, recreational cannabis use became legal across Canada. The province has given municipalities the option to opt out of permitting cannabis retail stores within their boundaries by Jan. 22, 2019.
Georgina residents are invited to share their thoughts by completing a short survey to help inform Council on resident’s feelings about allowing cannabis stores in the Town. The survey runs from Dec. 20, 2018 to Jan. 10, 2019. It is available online at georgina.ca/cannabis and hard copies are available at the Georgina library branches (Keswick, Pefferlaw and Sutton). Survey results will be presented to Council on Jan. 16, 2019.
Cannabis use is prohibited anywhere that smoking tobacco is not allowed by provincial law. This includes in enclosed public places, workplaces, and near playgrounds, schools or daycares.
