The 2019 Budget process continues at the Town of Georgina, bringing forward financial recommendations to best position the Town to meet the needs of residents and businesses – now and in the future.
The 2019 Draft Budget proposes a tax increase of 2.9 per cent. This is in line with the annual rate of inflation while also meeting the needs of a growing community and planning for the future. Council received an additional recommendation to add another one per cent to go towards capital infrastructure reserves. If approved, the total tax increase would be 3.9 per cent.
Georgina's changing environment will continue to present many budgetary and financial challenges related to proposed growth and long-term financial sustainability. The Town has a number of capital projects in the works – the Multi-use Recreation Complex (MURC), new Civic Centre, Pefferlaw Fire Hall, West Park redevelopment, the new Sutton Community Park and the next phases of the Link – that will contribute to building a stronger and more vibrant community. The Town will be seeking Council’s approval for a two-year roads contract for a total of $6.3 million.
The Draft Budget also has a new look for 2019 that includes an easier-to-read format, streamlined content, success stories and accomplishments. It also outlines the 2019 projects for each department and division.
It included feedback from 200 residents who participated in the Your Budget, Your Say survey, budget chats and public information sessions. Residents are encouraged to stay engaged with the budget process by reviewing the draft document and providing comment.
The 2019 Draft Budget is available online at georgina.ca/budget. Copies are also available at the Civic Centre and local libraries. Feedback on the draft document may be submitted to your Council Member or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org
Council will deliberate the Draft Budget on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019 and Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2019, if needed. Final approval is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019.
