Town receives provincial funding for infrastructure needs

The Town of Georgina has received $2.77 million from the Ontario government through the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF) for 2022.

“We welcome this increased level of investment from the province to help with infrastructure improvements for our growing community,” said Mayor Margaret Quirk. “In passing the 2022 budget last week, we identified a large capital need in Georgina and this will assist in reducing the funding gap, and ensure we can continue to deliver on important projects for the future.”

The Town approved its 2022 budget on Dec. 1, 2021. It allocated approximately $1.4 million in Ontario Community Infrastructure Funds to the roads program. This new investment will be considered as part of the Town's Long-range Financial Plan which is being updated in 2022. The results will be presented to Council after the financial plan is completed.

This investment is part of the provincial government’s goal to get shovels in the ground on important infrastructure projects that support economic recovery, growth and job creation. It is part of a $1 billion investment to help build and repair roads, bridges, water and wastewater infrastructure in small, rural and northern communities. The multi-year funding is being delivered through the OCIF and will bring the government’s total investment to nearly $2 billion over the next five years.
