Town update on COVID-19 impact to service levels

The Town of Georgina will enter into the Modified Step 2 of the Roadmap to Reopen effective Jan. 5 at 12:01 a.m. It follows an announcement by the government of Ontario regarding a reintroduction of public health and workplace safety measures in response to the rapidly spreading COVID-19 variant, Omicron.

All Town indoor sport and recreation facilities will be closed to the public, and all indoor in-person programming cancelled. Those impacted by cancelled programs and third-party rentals will be contacted directly. The Town will refund all user fees charged. Visit georgina.ca/recreation for more information.

With outdoor activities permitted as part of the modified stage two of the reopening act, the ROC and Pefferlaw Ice Pad will remain open with strict health and safety measures, and capacity limits in place, weather permitting. 

The ROC – Visit georginaroc.ca for all the COVID-19 procedures and protocols and hours of operation.  Capacity is reduced and tickets must be purchased online in advance. Masks must be worn at all times.  The chalet will be open for washroom use and providing a limited cafeteria takeout service only. There will be no dine-in or warming area within the chalet. Guests are asked to use their car as their chalet/home base.   

Pefferlaw Ice Pad (PIP) – The PIP remains open. Registration is not required and there is no admission charge. COVID-19 procedures and protocols are in place. Masks must be worn when physical distancing cannot be maintained such as lacing up in the skate area. Visit georgina.ca/skating for more information.

Events – All special public events are cancelled.

Stephen Leacock Theatre – Closed to the public. All ticket holders of events will be contacted directly.

Parks and trails – Parks, trails and playgrounds remain open. Residents are able to use them while following all health and safety measures as outlined by the province.

Georgina Public Library – Each of the three library branches will move to curbside pickup service. Visit georginalibrary.ca/ServiceUpdates for more information.

Georgina Civic Centre: The Georgina Civic Centre remains closed to the public, however operating hours are unchanged and staff may be reached Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Many services are available online and residents can call 905-476-4301 for further assistance.

These additional public health and safety measures are proposed to be implemented for 21 days (until Jan. 26, 2022) subject to trends in public health and health system indicators.
