Town Council has proclaimed the week of October 6-12, 2024 as 'Fire Prevention Week' throughout the Town of Georgina with the theme 'Smoke Alarms - Make Them Work For You' to increase awareness about the importance of having working smoke alarms in the home. Smoke alarms are the first line of defense in a home fire, but they need to be working in order to protect homeowners, as they sense smoke well before you can, alerting you to danger in the event of fire in which you may have as little as two minutes to escape safely. Georgina Fire and Rescue Services is dedicated to reducing the occurrence of home fires and home fire injuries and deaths through prevention and public education and this year's theme effectively serves to remind us to ensure we have working smoke alarms in our homes.
