Overview

The Link is the most advanced and noteworthy community hub in York Region. Located in Sutton, it is a collaborative community learning space that brings together people and organizations under one roof to deliver programs and services focused on health and wellness, arts and culture, youth engagement, recreation, job training and more.

Phase 2 and 3 renovation

In order to accommodate new tenants, the Town is renovating the remaining facility 14,000 square feet of the Link. Renovations include washroom refurbishments, new wall, floor and ceiling finishes in all public areas, new wall and ceiling finishes in tenant areas, roof replacement, HVAC and electrical upgrades, improvements to the building’s security and automation systems, and more.

The Phase 2 and 3 renovations created space for new tenants including Jericho Youth Services, Community Living Georgina and York Region Community Health Services.

The Link timeline

  • Construction began in Feb. 2020 and was completed in approximately eight months. 
  • In 2015, approximately 16,000 square feet of space was renovated, which includes a community kitchen.
  • In July 2011, the Town of Georgina purchased the former Sutton Public School and surrounding 2.65 hectares (6.5 acres) located at 20849 Dalton Rd., Sutton.

How it started 

In July 2011, the Town of Georgina purchased the former Sutton Public School and surrounding 2.65 hectares (6.5 acres) located at 20849 Dalton Rd., Sutton.

The single-story building is roughly H-shaped with a total area of 2,669 square metres (28,723 square feet). The original school was built in 1951, with subsequent additions in 1956, 1975, 1979, 1990 and 1992. 

The goal of the Link is to create a collaborative space where non-profit organizations, entrepreneurs, artists and cultural professionals, small business owners and residents of all ages can come together for a variety of programs, activities and services.

First renovation

In 2015, approximately 16,000 square feet of space was renovated, which includes a community kitchen, and is now occupied by various community organizations including Georgina Community Food Pantry, Georgina Trades Training Inc., Routes Connecting Communities, Hospice Georgina, Sutton Seniors and the Georgina Chamber of Commerce.

The Link was renovated in 2015, why is it being renovated again?

Renovations include washroom refurbishments, new corridor flooring, roof replacement, HVAC and electrical upgrades, and more.

 

How much will the renovation cost? And when will it be completed?

The construction budget to complete the renovation and adaptive reuse of Phase 2 and 3 is approximately $3.12 million. Construction begins Feb. 3, 2020 and is anticipated to be complete in approximately eight months.

 

What organizations are located at the Link?

A number of community organizations are using space at the Link including Georgina Community Food Pantry, Georgina Trades Training Inc., Routes Connecting Communities, Hospice Georgina, Sutton Seniors and the Georgina Chamber of Commerce.
