The Link Phase 2 and 3

You are here

The Link is the most advanced and noteworthy community hub in York Region. Located in Sutton, it is a collaborative community learning space that brings together people and organizations under one roof to deliver programs and services focused on health and wellness, arts and culture, youth engagement, recreation, job training and more.

How it started

In July 2011, the Town of Georgina purchased the former Sutton Public School and surrounding 2.65 hectares (6.5 acres) located at 20849 Dalton Rd., Sutton.

The single-story building is roughly H-shaped with a total area of 2,669 square metres (28,723 square feet). The original school was built in 1951, with subsequent additions in 1956, 1975, 1979, 1990 and 1992.

The goal of the Link is to create a collaborative space where non-profit organizations, entrepreneurs, artists and cultural professionals, small business owners and residents of all ages can come together for a variety of programs, activities and services.

First renovation

In 2015, approximately 15,570 square feet of space was renovated and is now occupied by various community organizations including Georgina Community Food Pantry, Georgina Trades Training Inc., Routes Connecting Communities, Hospice Georgina, and the Georgina Chamber of Commerce. Jericho Youth Services will also move in soon.

Phase 2 and 3

In order to accommodate new tenants in 2019, including Community Living Georgina and York Region Community Health Services Department, the Town is renovating the remaining facility. Renovations include washroom refurbishments, new corridor flooring, roof replacement, HVAC and electrical upgrades, and more.

The construction budget to complete the renovation and adaptive reuse of Phase 2 and 3 is approximately $1.5 million. Construction is scheduled to begin late 2018-early 2019 and finish by summer 2019.
