Mayor Margaret Quirk was raised in southern Ontario and moved to Georgina in 1983. Shortly after graduating from the University of Guelph in 1982, Margaret managed a government employment office. She then moved into the banking sector working locally with President's Choice Financial and she was also a co-owner of a fitness club in Keswick called 'A Change of Pace'.
Margaret was first elected to Town Council in 1994 as the Councillor for Ward 1 in the Keswick area, under her former last name 'Jordan'. She was successful in five consecutive elections and held that position until 2010 when she chose not to seek re-election.
During her time on Council, she served on numerous Town Committees - Economic Development, Thane Smelter Committee and the Keswick Secondary Plan Committee, to name a few. She is also a former Chair and Member of the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority.
Margaret was instrumental in the building of Georgina's first Leash Free Dog Park (located at Adeline Drive and Lake Drive South in Keswick) and also coordinated the building of the first All Abilities Playground in Georgina.
Margaret is married with two step children and two grandchildren and she and her husband live in the Sutton area.
Margaret is involved in her community as a Member of the Sutton Kinettes and in her leisure time is an avid gardener and participates in many fitness activities.
