Shoreline hazard watch - high risk - update

The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority advises that the water levels in Lake Simcoe are currently 219.16 m and are approximately 7 cm above average for this time of year.

The lake level has been slowly declining over the past two weeks and outflows from Lake Simcoe are increased outside of navigation hours. However, the forecasts for this week and early next week show varying rainfall amounts. Shoreline flooding is still occurring in some isolated low-lying areas close to the lake and water levels may increase further in response to precipitation.

The current forecast indicates westerly winds gusts in a range of 35-50 km/hr for this week. Winds acting on the high lake levels create waves, increasing the risk and extent of shoreline flooding that is already occurring.
