Watershed Conditions Statement - Flood Outlook - Lake Simcoe

The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority advises that warming temperatures are forecast starting on Thursday, March 5, along with rainfall forecast for Friday and Saturday. Daytime temperatures are expected to range between +6 to +13 degrees, with the overnight temperature remaining above zero degrees and total rainfall amounts of 15-30 mm for Thursday through Saturday.

While widespread flooding is not expected, the possibility for flooding in various low-lying areas of the watershed exists due to the expected rainfall and melting of the considerable snowpack. There is also the potential for ice breakup and ice jams in some watercourses, particularly around bridges, culverts and outlets to Lake Simcoe.

Watercourses will be flowing higher than normal causing local streams and rivers to become dangerous, especially in the vicinity of culverts and bridges. Children and pets should be warned to stay away from all watercourses.

This Watershed Conditions Statement will be in effect through Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., or until otherwise updated or cancelled. For further information, contact Kenneth Cheney at 905-895-1281.
