Watershed Conditions Statement - water safety

The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority advises that significant rainfall is forecast for this afternoon (December 28) and into tomorrow morning (Dec. 29) in our watershed, with predicted rainfall accumulations of 30-50mm. Higher amounts of rainfall may occur in localized areas as a result of thunderstorm activity. Temperatures are predicted to hover around zero for most parts of the watershed on Sunday, Dec. 28, before returning to below freezing temperatures by mid to late Monday, Dec. 29.

The forecasted rainfall may result in flooding of low lying areas. All watercourses in our area will experience higher than normal water levels and flows. As a result, local streams and rivers will become dangerous, especially in the vicinity of culverts and bridges. Riverbanks will likely become very slippery as a result of rain and/or freezing rain. Children should be warned to stay away from all watercourses.

This Watershed Conditions Statement will be in effect through Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025, at noon.
