Erin Ambrose is bringing the Walter Cup to Georgina. The Keswick native and defender for the Montreal Victoire of the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) celebrated the Walter Cup championship on May 20, 2026. She will bring the Walter Cup to the Georgina Ice Palace on Tuesday, Aug. 25 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
“What an exciting summer it’s been for Georgina, with hometown hockey powerhouse Erin Ambrose bringing the Walter Cup here!” said Mayor Margaret Quirk. “On behalf of our entire community, I want to congratulate Erin on this incredible achievement. Erin is proudly from Keswick and began her hockey career right here in Georgina. Her success is a testament to the dedication, determination and passion of young athletes. Erin is making our community proud and also inspiring the next generation to dream big, work hard and believe in themselves. Congratulations Erin and thank you for bringing the Walter Cup to Georgina.”
The event, which will take place on the blue ice pad, will include opening remarks from the Mayor and Erin, followed by photos with Erin and the Walter Cup. This is a first-come first-served event and a photo opportunity only. Erin will not be signing anything in an effort to see as many people as possible.
Erin started playing hockey at the age of five. She has always been inspired by the Canadian women’s hockey team at the Salt Lake City Olympics in 2002. Erin is a two-time Olympic medalist. She made her Olympic debut at Beijing 2022 where she helped Team Canada win the gold medal. She was also a member of Canada’s silver medal-winning team at Milano Cortina 2026. On Sept. 18, 2023, Erin was drafted in the first round, sixth overall by PWHL Montreal in the inaugural PWHL draft. During the league's expansion to 12 teams ahead of the 2026–27 season, she signed a two-year contract with PWHL Las Vegas on June 8, 2026.
Erin Ambrose Day was officially proclaimed by the Town of Georgina on April 3, 2022, after Erin and Team Canada won the Olympic gold medal in women’s hockey.
The Walter Cup is the championship trophy awarded annually to the PWHL playoff champion. It is named after league benefactors Mark and Kimbra Walter.
