Lake Simcoe shoreline status - low risk - update

The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority advises that water levels in Lake Simcoe continue to recede and are approaching seasonal ranges. The lake level currently remains approximately seven centimetres above average for this time of year. Forecast rainfall over the next several days may result in minor fluctuations in water levels; however, significant shoreline impacts are not anticipated.

Water levels have steadily declined through June and continue to trend toward seasonal values. Rainfall amounts are expected to remain relatively modest through Thursday, with approximately three mm per day forecast. More significant rainfall is possible on Friday and Sunday, with approximately 10 mm forecast on each day. These rainfall amounts may result in minor short-term increases in lake levels but are not expected to significantly alter current shoreline conditions.

The current forecast indicates southerly winds of approximately 14 km/hr, with gusts up to 40 km/hr for today (June 29). Over the next few days, there is variability expected in wind direction, including northwest winds on Friday and Saturday, which may put increase pressure on the southeast shoreline of the lake. Given the declining lake levels and relatively moderate wind conditions, wind and wave impacts are expected to be localized and limited.
