The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority advises that water levels in Lake Simcoe have risen in response to rainfall received across the watershed yesterday (Thursday, June 18) and are now sitting almost 11 cm above average for this time of year.
Approximately 25-30 mm of rain fell across the watershed yesterday, with locally higher amounts where thunderstorms occurred. This rainfall has increased the lake level by several centimetres. Minimal rain is in the forecast, although lake levels are expected to remain elevated through the weekend, and any additional rainfall could place further upward pressure on the lake.
The current forecast indicates westerly winds, with gusts in the range of 47-48 km/hr. With lake levels now 11 cm above average for this time of year, wind and wave action may cause localized shoreline flooding and minor wave damage in low-lying areas exposed to prevailing winds.
