May in Georgina brings family fun and springtime events

Spring is here, bringing an exciting lineup of events and activities designed to celebrate the season and bring the community together. This month in Georgina, look forward to recycling some old electronics, clearing the clutter, getting rid of extra garbage and taking mom for a swim. 

Youth Week
Celebrate Youth Week in Georgina from May 1 to May 7. There are exciting activities and events happening throughout the community every day, designed to help youth connect, get active and try something new. Visit georgina.ca/YouthWeek to find out more. 

Swap and Sell and Electronic Recycling Event
Back by popular demand is Georgina's annual Swap and Sell at the Georgina Ice Palace, on Saturday, May 9 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Register as a vendor to sell your new or used wares by calling 905-476-4301. No commercial vendors accepted.

The semi-annual Electronic Recycling Event is also taking place at the Ice Palace on May 9 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is an opportunity to dispose of old, unused or broken electronics to be recycled, free of charge. All batteries/packaging must be removed and data cleared from these items before bringing them for disposal. Georgina Fire and Rescue Services will be on-site to collect batteries. They have partnered with Call2Recycle – Battery Recycling, to provide an opportunity for the community to safely drop off used batteries. 

Mother’s Day swims
Join us for the Mother’s Day Swim at two locations. Bring your mom and she swims free with a paid admission at the Georgina Leisure Pool on Sunday, May 10 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. or the Multi-Use Recreation Complex on Sunday, May 10 from 2:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. Registration is not required. Wristband policy is in effect. 

Bag Tag Exemption Week 
Take advantage of Bag Tag Exemption Week from May 19 to May 22. Georgina residents can put out up to five untagged bags, items or containers for collection. Large non-recyclable household items are included in the program. Items that cannot be collected include refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers and hot water tanks. Large item collection is a scheduled service. Purchase a large item tag and call GFL (Green for Life) at 1-866-421-5625 to schedule collection. Note, waste and green bin pick up will move one day later that week due to the Victoria Day holiday.

Curbside Giveaway 
The next Curbside Giveaway Day is Saturday, May 30. Put your unwanted items at the curb from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for other residents/neighbours to take free of charge. What treasures will you find? All unclaimed items must be removed by 5 p.m.
