The Town of Georgina and Georgina Fire and Rescue Services officially opened the live fire training tower in Georgina on July 7, 2026. This new training facility will allow crews to conduct live fire training as well as technical rescue training. Along with the Town’s contribution, the Government of Ontario through the Skills Development Fund (SDF) Capital Stream supported this initiative with an investment of $550,436.
“This new fire training facility represents an investment in the safety, preparedness and resilience of our community,” said Mayor Margaret Quirk. “By providing Georgina Fire and Rescue Services with a modern, purpose-built environment to train, practice and refine critical emergency response techniques, we are strengthening their ability to protect lives and property when every second counts. As Georgina continues to grow, it is essential that we invest in the infrastructure, resources and training that support our first responders.”
“When emergencies happen, our communities count on firefighters to be prepared,” said David Piccini, Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development. “Our government is proud to stand with the first responders who work tirelessly to keep our communities safe. Through the Skills Development Fund Capital Stream, this investment will provide local firefighters with modern, hands-on live fire and technical rescue training that will strengthen emergency response, support long-term public safety and help protect the workers who protect Ontario.”
“This training facility is a valuable asset for Georgina Fire and Rescue Services and will also benefit nearby fire services who can also use the facility,” said Fire Chief Ron Jenkins. “Georgina residents will greatly benefit from this investment as our training program continues to evolve to meet the needs of today’s fire service.”
The training tower will provide frequent and high-quality training including fire dynamics, rope rescue training, laddering, fire and smoke flow patterns, and roof operations to Georgina Fire and Rescue Services with the ability to provide this type of training to the surrounding fire services.
