Town of Georgina announces first inductees to the new Sports Hall of Fame

The Town of Georgina is proud to announce the inaugural inductees into the newly established Georgina Sports Hall of Fame – Ken Hackenbrook (Builder) and Mike Sedore (Athlete and Builder).

“The Georgina Sports Hall of Fame will stand as a permanent celebration of the athletes, coaches, officials and community builders who have helped define our Town’s rich sporting history,” said Mayor Margaret Quirk. “As the first-ever inductees, Ken Hackenbrook and Mike Sedore set a high standard for excellence, dedication and community impact. Their support and commitment to youth sports is a testament to the values of teamwork, determination and community pride that will continue to motivate others for years to come.”

The Georgina Sports Hall of Fame celebrates the achievements and contributions of local athletes, coaches, officials and sport builders. It honours individuals whose excellence and dedication have shaped Georgina’s sports culture, inspired community pride, and contributed to the success of sport both locally and beyond, while preserving the Town’s rich sporting heritage.

Ken Hackenbrook is being inducted in the Builder category for his foundational role in developing youth hockey in Georgina. As the founder of the community’s first hockey school, Ken helped shape grassroots player development for decades, introducing more than 1,000 children to the game. A dedicated coach, mentor and advocate for safe and inclusive sport, his influence extends far beyond the ice through his mentorship of coaches, officials and volunteers who continue to serve the community today.

Mike Sedore, inducted as both an Athlete and Builder, is recognized for excellence both on and off the field of play. As an athlete, Mike achieved elite success in fastpitch softball, including winning the International Softball Congress World Championship in 1993 with the Toronto Gators, the first Canadian team to earn this title. He has also earned multiple provincial and national championships and is a member of the Softball Canada Hall of Fame. In addition to his athletic accomplishments, Mike has made a significant impact as a builder through a 28-year coaching and mentorship career in Georgina. He has supported athlete development at all levels, from house league to Junior A, and has contributed to several local minor hockey organizations. His leadership includes coaching championship teams and mentoring athletes who have gone on to compete at junior, collegiate and professional levels.
