The Town of Georgina is paying tribute to fallen volunteer firefighter Randy Bush by naming a street in his honour. Randy Bush Crescent will be located off the Queensway, north of Church Street within the Ballymore subdivision.
“This tribute is in recognition of Randy’s extraordinary courage and selfless actions that ultimately cost him his life in the line of duty. Though many years have passed, the impact of his sacrifice continues to be felt throughout our community,” said Mayor Margaret Quirk. “Georgina stands with Randy’s family, friends and fellow firefighters in gratitude and remembrance. His legacy lives on, not only in our hearts, but now in the very streets of our beautiful community he served. I also want to acknowledge Councillor Neeson who brought the idea forward to honour Randy in this special way in his ward.”
Randy Bush served as a volunteer firefighter with the Keswick Volunteer Fire Department. On March 25, 1981, Randy responded to an emergency on Lake Simcoe when an angler went through the ice. He was among the first to arrive and acted quickly to assist those in need. During the rescue effort, Randy lost his life. Randy's courage and commitment to helping others continue to be remembered.
“Today, we honour Randy Bush—a brave firefighter whose sacrifice will never be forgotten. His legacy is a powerful reminder of the risks our firefighters face every day in service to others. Their courage, commitment, and selflessness are the backbone of our community’s safety, and we are forever grateful for all they do. Thank you to Ballymore for its commitment to our community and honouring the everyday courage of our firefighters,” said Councillor Dave Neeson, Ward 3.
In recognition of his bravery, Randy Bush was posthumously awarded the Star of Courage by the Governor General of Canada on Jan. 17, 1983.
