Community Giving Program

Is there a special place where you enjoyed a sunset or caught your first bug or climbed a tree or just wanted to sit down for a minute to catch your breath? Family birthdays, anniversaries, special appreciation, love dedication, these are all special memories for us. Why not give a memory that will last for future generations to enjoy.

The Town of Georgina offers residents, organizations, service clubs, professional associations, neighbourhood associations and foundations a chance to make help a community grow.

Location 

Georgina has many parks and facilities available for donated trees, park benches or equipment where they will be well looked after. Staff will do their best to fulfill the donator's wishes regarding where he or she would like their item placed. Contact the Community Services Department to arrange a site meeting. Site meetings will be scheduled between May 15 and October 15. Locations vary on soil suitability for trees and recreation use for benches.

Special ceremonies 

Special ceremonies are to be after the installation of the tree/bench and should be brought to the Town’s attention in order to prepare the site (clean up area is required, etc.) for your special moment. 

Installation 

Tree planting and bench installations are determined by the season. Requests received between July and February will be installed in June. Requests received between March and June will be installed in October.

Warranty/maintenance 

All items gifted to the Town of Georgina will have a supplier warranty with an additional Town warranty of one year. However, the Town will maintain and repair any damage made to any gift items donated. 

Partial donations 

Partial donations are welcome with the understanding that the donated amount will be held on account until the required funds have been reached. 

Options

Trees

Trees are 4-8 ft. in height and 50-60mm in diameter

Tree installation including plaque (4” x 7”) may vary in price and the minimum installation price for a tree is $1,000 (inc. taxes). 

Bench

The cost for an average bench, plaque (2” x 5”) and installation is $3,350 (inc. taxes). Prices are subject to change any time.

The bench ends and seat are made from solid steel flat bar and H.S. steel tube and all steel components are protected with E-Coat Rust Proofing. 

Benches will be installed in the months of June through November to avoid frost conditions and will be mounted to a concrete pad. Concrete prices are subject to change at any time.

Memorial and dedication guidelines

To ensure Georgina’s parks, trails and green spaces remain safe, accessible and welcoming for everyone, the Town has established the following guidelines for memorial and dedication items.

Approved memorial items

Memorials in Town parks are only permitted through the Community Giving Program and may include:

  • Donated trees
  • Donated park benches
  • Small Town-approved plaques installed by the Town

No other memorial items are permitted unless approved in writing by the Town.

Unapproved items

The following items are not permitted in parks, on trails or in green spaces:

  • Hanging items attached to trees or shrubs (including ribbons, wind chimes, ornaments, signage or photographs)
  • Shrines, memorials or tribute displays placed at the base of trees or on park features
  • Candles, solar lights, flowers (artificial or natural), stuffed animals or personal objects
  • Temporary or permanent structures not installed by the Town

These items may pose safety risks, cause damage to trees and natural features, and interfere with routine maintenance.

Removal of items

  • Unapproved memorial or shrine-like items may be removed without notice.
  • Items are not stored or returned once removed.
  • Removal is conducted respectfully and in accordance with Town policies.

  • Protect the health of trees and natural areas.
  • Ensure public safety and accessibility.
  • Maintain parks for shared community use.
  • Provide a consistent and respectful approach to memorial recognition.
