The new seasonal multi-use pathway (MUP) on Lake Drive officially opens on Thursday, June 26 at 7 a.m. The MUP is between Civic Centre Road and South Drive. Pedestrians and cyclists will use the lakeside lane while the other lane is a one-way eastbound vehicular lane.
This exciting change for Lake Drive will allow pedestrians, cyclists, families and visitors to enjoy this beautiful lakeside space during the summer season. The MUP is destined to become more than just a path, it will be a place for recreation, connection and making memories. Whether walking, biking or simply taking in the scenic views, the pathway is here for everyone to enjoy safely and responsibly.
This configuration of Lake Drive is seasonal. The MUP/one-way arrangement will be removed by Oct. 3, 2025 and re-installed in spring 2026. Emergency services, waste pickup, school buses and Canada Post will adjust their routes to continue providing services.
Some tips to remember for using the MUP –
- Share the road and slow down. Pedestrians and cyclists are using the pathway.
- Larger groups of cyclists are asked to use the eastbound one-way street for vehicle traffic. The multi-use pathway is designated for pedestrians and passive cyclists.
- No parking and no stopping on Lake Drive and adjacent streets.
- South Drive and Harwood Drive are no longer through streets from Metro Road to Lake Drive.
- Use Metro Road to travel westbound from Jackson’s Point.
Additional traffic calming measures such as stop signs, speed humps, signage, line painting and pedestrian crossings have been permanently implemented on Lake Drive between Varney Road and Dalton Road.
Other key features on Lake Drive –
