Town Council has proclaimed the week of October 5-11, 2025 as 'Fire Prevention Week; Charge into Fire Safety - Lithium-Ion Batteries in your Home' throughout the Town of Georgina to help people be aware of their devices, to understand the importance of using lithium-ion batteries correctly to prevent fires and to follow the Buy, Charge and Recycle Safety approach.
Most electronics we use in our homes every day - smartphones, tablets, power and lawn tools, laptops, e-cigarettes, headphones and toys to name a few - are powered by lithium-ion batteries. Most everything that is rechargeable uses this type of battery. If not used correctly or if damaged, lithium-ion batteries can overheat, start a fire or even explode.
Georgina Fire & Rescue Services is dedicated to reducing the occurrence of home fires and home fire injuries through prevention and public education.
