Be Green & Smoke Free

The Town of Georgina has been Smoke Free since October 9, 2012.  This By-Law was implemented to further the efforts of the York Region No-Smoking By-law and Smoke-Free Ontario Act (SFOA), to protect the public and de-normalize smoking, due to its negative environmental and health effects.

The by-law prohibits smoking, holding lighted tobacco, chewing tobacco or using tobacco products on all Town of Georgina properties and facilities*.

This includes all:

  • Recreation Centers & Town Buildings (Arenas, Town Halls, Libraries, Police station, Fire station, Operation Centres, Senior Centres, Tourism Centres, Animal Shelters, etc.)
  • Parks
  • Playgrounds
  • Playing fields (soccer pitches, baseball diamonds, beach volleyball, tennis courts and outdoor ice rinks)
  • Skateboard Parks
  • Ropes & Bicycle Courses
  •  Tube/Toboggan & Terrain Area
  • Splash Pads & Pools
  • Trails & pathways
  • Parking lots & Municipal laneways
  • Beaches & Waterfronts
  • Green Spaces

If caught breaking the by-law the penalty is a minimum fine of $100 and a maximum fine of $100,000.
*Except in locations where a Designated Smoking Area sign is posted.

Strive to be Smoke Free

  • Smoking is the No. 1 preventable cause of death in Canada.

Let’s keep Georgina Clean

Smoking is not only bad for you, it also harms our air, water, animals and plants.   Cigarette butts are the most littered item in the world and very costly to clean up.  Do your part and put your butts where they belong.
