Blue box changes

As of Dec. 31, 2025, Georgina will no longer manage recycling as mandated by the Ontario government. This will be operated and managed by Circular Materials. As a result, there will be no blue box collection the week of Dec. 29, 2025. For more information and the latest updates, visit circularmaterials.ca/Georgina.

Change for large-item collection

Beginning the week of Jan. 5, 2026, large-item collection will become a scheduled service.

  • Schedule a pick-up by calling Green for Life (GFL) at 1-866-421-5625.
  • Each item requires a large-item tag. Tags remain the same price – $12.
  • A maximum of five items will be collected per pick-up.
  • Large items will be picked up on the regular garbage collection day.

Organic waste

The Town will continue to provide curbside collection of organic waste (green bin) to areas that currently receive these services. The weekly collection schedule will remain the same.

Christmas tree pickup/waste and recycling reminders

  • Christmas tree pickup will be held the weeks of Jan. 5 and Jan. 19, 2026. Residents are asked to remove all decorations, nails, tree stands and plastic tree bags. The maximum size is six feet or 1.8 metres. If your tree is larger, cut it into pieces.
  • Place bins on the driveway, not on top of or behind snowbanks.
  • Download the free Recycle Coach app or visit georgina.ca/WasteandRecycling for more information.

Reminder to have items at the curb by 7 a.m. on collection day.

Winter maintenance

As a result of a significant winter storm, the Town may declare a Winter Maintenance Event which requires all parked vehicles to be removed from Town roads immediately and be kept off for the duration of the event. The Town can declare a Significant Weather Event when a forecast or occurring weather hazard poses, or has the potential to pose, a significant danger to road users. When this declaration is in effect, the standard timelines for winter road maintenance are temporarily suspended to ensure crews can respond safely and effectively.

Plow tracker

If you want to know where Darth Blader or Melton John are, be sure to check the Town's online winter operations tracker. It allows you to see where the snowplows and sidewalk plows are during snow clearing. Check out georgina.ca/snow to see which plow will be in your area after a snowfall.

Reminder: Winter parking restrictions are in effect until April 15, meaning no street parking between the hours of 2 a.m. and 7 a.m.

Stormwater ponds

No ice is safe ice. A reminder that stormwater ponds are not for recreational use. Despite their appearance, they're not safe for skating, walking or any winter activity. The ice is unstable and risky, and water levels can change rapidly and create unsafe conditions. This is extremely dangerous and poses many safety risks for residents.
