Dog park guidelines

Dog park guidelines

  1. Dogs are required to be kept on a leash until they have entered the secured park area.
  2. Pet owners are reminded that their dog’s behaviour is the responsibility of the owner at all times in the park and that everyone is responsible to clean up any pet waste, toys or other garbage that is left behind from themselves or their pet.
  3. Dogs entering the park should be up-to-date on vaccines before socializing with other dogs.
  4. It is recommended that puppies wait until they are old enough to be fully vaccinated before visiting the park.
  5. It is recommended that all visitors to the park bring fresh water for themselves and their pets along with pet waste removal bags.
  6. Human food and treats are not recommended at the park due to potential reactivity from other dogs.
  7. Children should be closely monitored at all times in the park.
  8. Children under the age of 18 should be accompanied by an adult when bringing their pet to the park.

Park etiquette

Dog handlers should exhibit courteous behaviour at all times. There are simple things you can do to keep the park enjoyable for pets and persons alike:

  • Pay attention to your dog at all times.
  • It is suggested that you do not leave a leash on your dog while in the park. However, there may be some situations where a dog will be leashed.
  • Don't overreact to normal rough and tumble dog play. Being overprotective can make your dog nervous.
  • Respect the separate large and small dog areas.
  • If your dog is exhibiting pestering or bullying behaviour, please remove your dog from the park.
  • Keep in mind that outside of the park gates, all leash bylaws apply.

When should my dog not visit the park?

  • Female dogs that are intact should not be visiting the park when they are in heat to prevent reactivity from other dogs.
  • Dogs that are sick or injured should not be visiting the part until they are well enough to participate in dog-to-dog activities.
  • Dogs that are too young to be vaccinated.
  • Dogs that are potentially reactive or aggressive with other dogs or people that they don’t know.
