Fall into fun in Georgina with September events and activities

Summer may be winding down, but there’s still plenty to do in Georgina this September. Come out to the Cultural Festival or join us for the Georgina Fire and Rescue Services Open House. Get ready for fall by clearing out unwanted items during Bag Tag Exemption Week or at the eWaste event at the Georgina Ice Palace.

Fall program registration
Fall into fun with recreation and culture programs for all ages and abilities. Fall program registration is open. Visit georgina.ca/recreation for more information and to register. 

Senior Games
For more than 30 years, the Senior Games have brought the community together through fun and fitness. Whether you are a returning participant or trying an event for the first time, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Open to Georgina residents aged 55 and older, the games take place from Sept. 9 to Oct. 23. Visit georgina.ca/SeniorGames to register and learn more.

Club 55 Open House
Come out to the Club 55 Open House on Wednesday, Sept. 2 at Club 55 Keswick. Take a tour, meet the friendly faces behind the club and discover the wide range of programs, activities and services offered at all three Club 55 locations. Starlight Cinema Nights
The final movie for Starlight Cinema Nights takes place Sept. 3 at 7:45 p.m. Come out and see Zootopia 2 at West Park. Bring your own comfy lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy a movie in the great outdoors. Visit georgina.ca/StarlightCinema for more information.

Annual Georgina Mayor’s Charity Motorcycle Ride and Poker Run
Mark your calendar for the Georgina Mayor’s Charity Motorcycle Ride and Poker Run benefiting Sutton Legion Branch #356, on Saturday, Sept. 12. The ride begins at the Pefferlaw Lion’s Hall. Registration starts at 9 a.m. with coffee, tea and muffins. Kickstands are up at 10 a.m. followed by a four-hour scenic tour ending at the Sutton Legion with a barbecue and prizes. 

Electronic Recycling Event
Georgina's eWaste Recycling event takes place in the back parking lot of the Georgina Ice Palace on Sept. 12 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is your opportunity to dispose of old, unused or broken electronics to be recycled, free of charge. Remember to remove all batteries/packaging and data from these items before bringing them for disposal. Georgina Fire and Rescue Services will be on-site to collect batteries.

Cultural Festival 
The Cultural Festival returns Sept. 18 to Sept. 20 for a full weekend celebrating the cultures, traditions and stories that make the community vibrant. On Friday, Sept. 18 celebrate our Canadian home, with music, activities, family fun and fireworks at the ROC. On Saturday, Sept. 19, explore and discover cultures from around the world through food, music, dance, art and interactive experiences at the ROC. On Sunday, Sept. 20, connect and experience culture through creativity, hands-on activities and demonstrations at the MURC. Learn more at georgina.ca/CulturalFestival.

Bag Tag Exemption Week 
Take advantage of Bag Tag Exemption Week from Sept. 21 to Sept. 24. Georgina residents can put out up to five items without tags. During this week, large items such as mattresses, couches and dressers can be placed at the curb without a scheduled collection appointment. It does not include white goods (such as refrigerators, stoves, washers and dryers, dishwashers) or electronics. Georgina Fire and Rescue Services Open House
Residents are invited to come out on Sept. 26 for the annual Georgina Fire and Rescue Services Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sutton Fire Hall at 37 Snooks Rd. Meet the firefighters, see the fire trucks, enjoy a free barbecue and have some fun! 

Curbside Giveaway
The next Curbside Giveaway is Sept. 26. Put your unwanted items at the curb from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for other residents/neighbours to take free of charge. All unclaimed items must be removed by 5 p.m.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 
On Sept. 30, at 5 p.m., in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the Town of Georgina, in partnership with the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation, will hold a flag raising event at the Civic Centre. Residents are welcome to attend this event commemorating the tragedy of residential schools in Canada and their continuing impact on Indigenous communities. Stephen Leacock Theatre of Performing Arts
Tickets for the Stephen Leacock Theatre of Performing Arts 2026/2027 season are on sale. Purchase tickets on TIXHUB. There is an exciting lineup of shows including the Jim Cuddy Band, Essence of the Nutcracker, comedian Brent Butt and Tim Hicks. Visit georgina.ca/SLT to see the full lineup. There are other great shows coming to the theatre as well, including fabulous tribute artists and magicians. Be sure to check them out.
