Bag tags
A maximum of five bags (two without tags, three with tags) are allowed per garbage pickup. Collection times may vary. Large item tags
A large item tag is needed for large items such as furniture, mattresses, box springs, toilets, appliances and carpeting.
Tags for garbage bags or large items are available for purchase at the Civic Centre and all branches of the Georgina Public Library. Each large item will require its own large item orange tag and the maximum of five collectible items during the regular bi-weekly garbage collection schedule includes tagged large items.

Why is the Town changing its bag tag program?
Throughout the majority of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Town waived the requirement for bag tags, allowing residents to place five bags/items every other week. Prior to the pandemic, the limit for Georgina residents was one bag/item every other week and bag tags had to be purchased for additional bags/items up to four for a total of five that could be placed out every other week. The Town recognizes many people are still working from home and there was a need to increase the amount of garbage every week to two bags/items. Residents are encouraged to recycle as much as possible as there is no limit on the amount of blue boxes or green bins that can be placed out every week.

Can the current tags still be used after July 4?
Yes, previously purchased bag tags remain valid and can be used after July 4, 2022. Only one is needed for each extra bag/item.
Where do I place the bag tag?
All bags or containers set out for pick up by the waste collector must have a tag prominently displayed. If garbage is set out in a regular garbage container, please have tag secured to top bag inside container, not to the container.
What is the maximum weight per can/bag?
Each garbage bag or garbage can be no more than 50 lbs. each.
How many bags can I put out for each pickup?
Residents can place up to two bags or containers out for pick up every other week on regularly scheduled collection days. All garbage should be placed in a Town approved container or plastic bag. Disposable bags, or other waste containers, shall not exceed the size of 76 cm x 122 cm (30" x 48") for bags. Refuse cans/containers are to be reusable metal or plastic, no larger than 50 cm (20") in diameter and 90 cm (36") in height and have handles and a lid. All material must be bagged and tied.
What is a large item and how much does it cost to put one out for pick up?

Each large item will require its own tag and the maximum of five collectible items during the regular bi-weekly garbage collection schedule includes tagged large items.
Where can I recycle clothing and textiles?
The Town partnered with Diabetes Canada in 2021 for a textile diversion program to help support waste diversion. Residents can bring unwanted textiles (adult/children’s clothing, footwear, undergarments, towels, pillows and curtains) to the textile donation bins located at:
- Ice Palace (southwest corner), 90 Wexford Dr.
- Civic Centre (near T-ball diamonds)
- Sutton Arena (northeast corner)
What are white goods and do they need a bag tag?
White goods are large items such as refrigerators, stoves, washers and dryers, and dishwashers. A large item tag will be required for items placed out on your normal collection day. Tags are $12 each and can be purchased at the Civic Centre or at any Town library branch. Pick-up of metal items must be coordinated in advance. Call GFL Environmental at 1-866-421-5625 to arrange a pick-up (each item requires a large item tag prominently displayed) or bring the item to a CEC.
