Georgina is a beautiful lakeside community with parks and beaches for everyone to enjoy. The Town works hard to keep greenspaces, such as parks and trails, as well as roads and ditches, clean and beautiful. Littering hurts the environment, puts wildlife at risk and creates unnecessary costs for the Town to clean up.
Did you know? The Town maintains 432 public waste bins throughout parks, trails and other public spaces. Last year, 179 metric tonnes of solid waste was collected from these locations.
By raising awareness about littering and illegal dumping, the Town aims to encourage positive behaviour and remind everyone that proper waste disposal helps keep Georgina clean, beautiful and enjoyable for all. This includes being a responsible pet owner and picking up after your pets.

Through the Clean up Georgina initiative, residents can make a direct impact by participating in local cleanups. To support these efforts, the Town is offering free cleanup kits, including purple garbage bags and gloves, available at convenient locations:
-
Georgina Civic Centre
-
Georgina Leisure Pool
-
Multi-Use Recreation Complex (MURC)
-
All branches of Georgina Public Library
Residents can participate by following a few simple steps
- Choose a public park, greenspace or trail that needs attention
- Pick up a free cleanup kit from one of the designated locations
- Follow the safety tips provided in the kit
- Clean up litter in your chosen area
- Leave tied garbage bags at the cleanup location and contact waste@georgina.ca for collection
Share your efforts by tagging @townofgeorgina on Facebook and using the hashtag #CleanupGeorgina. The campaign is designed to encourage environmental stewardship while fostering community pride and engagement. Every bag of litter removed contributes to a healthier ecosystem and a more vibrant community for all. The Town encourages individuals, families, schools and community groups to participate throughout the campaign. Whether it’s a small cleanup or a larger group effort, every contribution counts.
How residents can help
- Do not litter. Use waste containers provided by the Town in public spaces or take waste home if the bins are full.
- Do not dump household waste. It is against the law and subject to fines. If you have excess garbage or waste that is not collected from the curb, bring it to a York Region Waste Depot to be disposed of safely.
- For more information on how to properly dispose of garbage, furniture, appliances and other items, visit georgina.ca/waste.
Adopt a Road
Did you know the Town of Georgina offers an Adopt-a-Road program? Anyone can adopt a road and make a meaningful contribution to keeping Georgina beautiful.
