The summer may be ending, but there is still lots to do in Georgina in September. Enjoy Harvest Day at Georgina Pioneer Village or come out to Georgina Fire and Rescue Services Open House. You can also get ready for fall by clearing out your unwanted items during bag tag exemption or at the e-Waste event happening at the Georgina Ice Palace.

Summer Photo Contest ending soon

Photos are being accepted for the Summer Photo Contest until Sept. 9. To be eligible to win a prize, photos must be taken in Georgina and fit into one of three categories –

  • Enjoying our parks and green spaces - playing soccer, sand castles, splash pad fun, leash-free park
  • Instagrammable Georgina - what’s special in Georgina through your eyes
  • Summer events - Sutton fair, movie in the park, Field to Table and more

Non-residents can also submit a photo. Entry forms are available at georgina.ca/events. Photos and entry forms can be sent to contest@georgina.ca.

Mayor’s Annual Charity Motorcycle Ride

Join us on Sept. 14 for the 4th Annual Georgina Mayor's Charity Motorcycle Ride and Poker Run.  All proceeds raised are in support of the Sutton Legion. The day begins at the Georgina Civic Centre with registration at 9 a.m. Kick stands up at 10:30 a.m., followed by a four-hour scenic tour ending with a BBQ and silent auction at the Sutton Legion. Registration, waiver and pledge forms are available at georgina.ca/events.

Electronic Recycling Event

Wondering what to do with your old electronics? Back by popular demand is Georgina's Electronic Recycling Event in the back parking lot of the Georgina Ice Palace on Sept. 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is your opportunity to dispose of old, unused or broken electronics to be recycled, free of charge. Items could include cables, gaming systems, phones, cameras and camcorders, fax machines and more. Remember to remove all batteries/packaging and data from these items before bringing them for disposal.

Harvest Day at the Pioneer Village

The Georgina Historical Society presents Harvest Day at Georgina Pioneer Village on Sept. 14. Join us from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to experience live music, historical demonstrations, vintage cars, kid’s games and story time skits, vendors, a bake sale, BBQ and more. Bring the whole family for a fun day at the village.

Admission: pay what you can in support of Georgina Pioneer Village.

Bag Tag Exemption Week

Take advantage of Bag Tag Exemption Week from Sept. 16 to 19. Georgina residents can put out up to five untagged bags, items or containers for collection. Large non-recyclable household items are included in the program. Items that cannot be collected include refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers and hot water tanks. Georgina Fire and Rescue Services Open House

Residents are invited to come out on Sept. 21 for the annual Georgina Fire and Rescue Services Open House from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sutton Fire Hall at 37 Snooks Rd. Meet the firefighters, see the fire trucks and have some fun! Enjoy a free pancake breakfast or a BBQ in the afternoon. There will be activities for all ages including a search and rescue maze, a live side-by-side burn demonstration, a bouncy castle and displays from community partners.

Curbside Giveaway

The next Curbside Giveaway is Sept. 28. Put your unwanted items at the curb from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for other residents/neighbours to take free of charge. All unclaimed items must be removed by 5 p.m.
