Town declares significant weather event

The Town of Georgina is declaring a Significant Weather Event, due to the winter storm warning that is in effect.

As per the Ontario Municipal Act, a municipality may declare a significant weather event when a weather hazard, either forecast or occurring, has the potential to pose a significant danger to users of the roadways in which they have authority. This declaration suspends the standard timelines required for municipalities to meet their winter maintenance objectives.

A few reminders for residents –

  • Remember to keep roads clear by making sure cars are not parked on the street when snowplows are working.
  • Remove any personal property such as planters or basketball nets from Town boulevards so they don’t get damaged by snowplows.
  • If you have a fire hydrant by your house, remember to clear the snow around it for about three feet and clear a path from the hydrant to the street.

Drive according to weather conditions and remember to leave room around snowplows. If you have a roads concern after hours, call 905-476-4301 and follow the prompts to reach after-hours on-call services.
