Georgina Opens Cooling Centre at the Ice Palace

In response to the extreme summer heat and high humidity, the Town of Georgina has opened a Cooling Centre at the Georgina Ice Palace located at 90 Wexford Drive (at Woodbine Avenue) in Keswick. It will be open today (Wednesday, July 13) and tomorrow (Thursday, July 14) from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The Ice Palace is fully air conditioned. Bottled water is available. There are also water fountains for those who wish to use their re-usable water bottles.

The use of municipal water for watering of lawns or gardens, washing of vehicles or the filling of swimming pools is only permitted between the hours of 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and only permitted in accordance with the following conditions between May 15 and September 30 of each year;

Environment Canada's heat warning for York Region is still in effect and conditions are expected to last until late Thursday, July 7.

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for York Region. Temperatures for Tuesday, July 5 and Wednesday, July 6 are expected to be near or hotter than 31 with an overnight low of 21 providing little relief from the heat during this timeframe.

Fireworks are a lot of fun to watch and certainly add to the holiday weekend, but they are dangerous! The Georgina Fire Department recommends leaving fireworks to the professionals so that you and your family can enjoy a happy and safe long weekend. We’re hosting an amazing fireworks display tomorrow at The ROC starting at 10 p.m.

The Town of Georgina has CLOSED Malone Drive from Jackson's Point Avenue to Lorne Street until 10 p.m. tonight (June 29, 2016) due to emergency watermain repairs.

The Regional Municipality of York works continuously to maintain the condition of our regional roads for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. York Region is making improvements to Baseline Road between Woodbine Avenue and McCowan Road in the Town of Georgina.

Possible Canada Post Strike

Due to the possibility of a strike at Canada Post as early as July 2, 2016, Georgina residents should be cautious when sending payments for taxes, utility bills and other Town bills through the mail.

Property owners are reminded that property tax payments must be received at the Civic Centre by the due date to avoid penalties. Residents are urged to use alternative methods of submitting payment which include the following:

Georgina Farmers' Market Opens July 3

The Georgina Farmers' Market will be held on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. starting July 3 to September 25 at The Link (20849 Dalton Road). It will feature more than 30 vendors offering a wide range of local products including produce, meats, baked goods and crafts, all from local vendors. This community-run market gives consumers a unique opportunity to meet, get to know and support the people in our town and nearby communities who grow and prepare food.
