    Candidate nomination period opens May 1

    Calling all candidates. Thinking of running for municipal office? The nomination period for the 2026 Municipal Election begins May 1 and will remain open until Nomination Day on Aug. 21, 2026 at 2 p.m.  

    Nominations will be accepted for the position of Mayor, Regional Councillor, five Ward Councillors, trustees for the York Region District School Board and York Catholic District School Board, and trustees for the two French-language school boards, Conseiller(ère) - le Conseil Scolaire Viamonde and Conseiller(ère) - le Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir.

    Town honours 2025 Volunteer Award of Merit recipients

    The Town of Georgina honoured members of the community with the 2025 Volunteer Award of Merit at a ceremony at the ROC on Thursday, April 23, 2026. 

    “Our community is stronger because of the people who step forward to support others and bring neighbours together,” said Mayor Margaret Quirk. “I offer my heartfelt thanks to the recipients of the 2025 Volunteer Award of Merit. Their dedication and generosity continue to make a meaningful and lasting difference in Georgina.”

    Shoreline hazard watch - high risk - update

    The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority advises that the water levels in Lake Simcoe are currently 219.40 m and are approximately 31 cm above average for this time of year. Lake Simcoe water levels appear to have peaked, however, the water levels in the lake remain dependent on rainfall that is received and could increase in response to rainfall. Shoreline flooding is occurring in low-lying areas close to the lake and water levels are expected to remain higher than average in the coming weeks.

    Town to give away trees for Earth Day

    For the third year in a row, the Town of Georgina is celebrating Earth Day by giving away trees at the ROC on Saturday, April 25, 2026 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This initiative is supported through funding provided in partnership with Canadian Trees for Life and its vendor, Beech Nurseries.

    Sand available for residents amid high water levels

    With very high-water levels and more rain in the forecast, the Town of Georgina is providing sand at designated locations to help residents protect their properties. Residents can fill their own sandbags using the sand provided. The Town will also provide sandbags located in blue recycling totes at the sand locations.

    Be flood safe – tips and reminders

    The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority advises that the water levels in Lake Simcoe are currently 219.23 m and are higher than average for this time of year. Currently, the water level in Lake Simcoe is rising two to three centimetres per day and is expected to continue rising.

    Watershed Conditions Statement - shoreline hazard watch

    Rainfall is forecast for the Lake Simcoe watershed over the next five days. Total rainfall amounts of 30–40 mm are expected over five days, beginning today (Thursday), with locally higher amounts possible where thunderstorms occur. Temperatures will warm up on Friday, reaching 15 to 20°C, before the main rainfall develops on Saturday.

    As winter’s chill gives way to the warmth of spring, the Town invites you to welcome the season of renewal by coming together to care for and refresh the community. There are several activities to participate in during Earth Month including cleaning up neighbourhoods, decluttering homes, planting trees and connecting with one another.
