The Council of the Town of Georgina invites people to volunteer in their community as a member of the following committees. The appointment is for the remainder of the 2022-2026 Term of Council. Current Town board and committee members are encouraged to apply.

Committee information

Each Term of Office, the Town of Georgina Council invites community members to sit on the Georgina Equity and Diversity Advisory Committee (GEDAC).

The purpose of the Georgina Equity and Diversity Advisory Committee is to provide information, advice and assistance to Town Council, community and Staff relating to the enhancement of community relations through the promotion of equity, diversity and inclusivity.

Terms of Reference

Committee Composition

The Committee is composed of seven (7) Members made up of:

  • two (2) Council Members;
  • one (1) representative from the York Regional Policy Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Bureau; or, if such representative is not available to serve, a resident of Georgina;
  • one (1) representative from the Sandgate Women’s Shelter of York Region Inc.; or, if such a representative is not available to serve, a resident of Georgina;
  • one (1) representative from the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation; or, if such representative is not available to serve, a resident of Georgina; and
  • two (2) citizen appointments who ideally have relevant lived experience to share with the Committee, Council and the community.

In addition, one senior staff liaison will be appointed by the CAO as a non-voting member to ensure management participation in this important work.

More Information

The GEDAC also, through its membership since 2009 in the Canadian Coalition of Municipalities Against Racism and Discrimination (CCMARD), shares experiences with other municipalities to improve their policies against racism, discrimination, exclusion and intolerance.
