The following bylaws were amended at the Wednesday, March 22 Council Meeting:

1)    By-law 2004-0078 (PWO-2) has been amended with By-law 2017-0024 (PWO02). The change is in regards to the installation of new entrances and extensions: The work is now the responsibility, and at the expense of the applicant, and must meet Town standards.

LSRCA Notice: Watershed Conditions - March 24 to 27

The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority advises that the Weather Office is forecasting that a low pressure system will move through Southern Ontario beginning this morning and continuing through Sunday before moving out of our watershed.  The forecasted rainfall amounts for the three days are 20 to 30mm.

The Georgina Leisure Pool will be closed for regular maintenance beginning Thursday, March 23 through Friday, March 31. There is no programming scheduled during this time. Reception will remain open for information and registrations: Monday to Friday - 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday - 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The Georgina Leisure Pool will re-open at their regular time for programming on Saturday, April 1.

CN would like to apologize to the residents of Pefferlaw for the disturbance and inconvenience caused by the March 5, 2017 derailment. CN also would like to thank residents for their patience during this clean up process and give special thanks and acknowledgement to the emergency services personnel who responded to the incident.

CN Statement Regarding Cause of Pefferlaw Train Derailment Work crews remain on scene this week removing the rail cars and copper concentrate in the cars. That work is expected to be finished in the coming days. There is no environmental or public safety hazard. The investigation into the cause of the derailment is focused on a broken wheel on one of the rail cars. Residents can contact CN directly at or 1-888-888-5909. CN Statement

Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) is reminding residents of the dangers that exist near bodies of water around this time of year and urges people to keep family and pets away from the edges of all waterways.

Rail Cars Should Be Gone By Saturday

The clean-up continues at the site of a train derailment in downtown Pefferlaw earlier this week.  Georgina Fire Services and the Town’s Operations Department have been working with CN Rail crews supporting the efforts.

Early Sunday morning the southbound train derailed, involving 14 rail cars carrying copper concentrates. There were no injuries, nor dangerous goods involved.

A Visitation and Celebration of Life have been arranged for former Georgina Councillor Paul Nicholls. Paul was vacationing with his family when he died suddenly on February 23, 2017.

The family will receive friends at the M.W. Becker Funeral Home, 490 The Queensway South, Keswick, on Tuesday March 7th, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life in the Chapel at 2 p.m.

Paul served on Council from 1994 to 1997 and was involved in the community with many committees including the Library Board and Georgina Cares.
