Georgina Housing Needs Assessment

Housing Needs Assessment: Shaping the future of housing in Georgina.

About the project

The Town of Georgina has completed a Housing Needs Assessment (HNA) to better understand the community’s current and future housing needs. The final report identifies key housing challenges and opportunities, outlines gaps in housing availability, and provides recommendations to guide future policies, development and investment in local housing infrastructure.

Why it matters

Housing is foundational to a healthy, inclusive and resilient community. The findings from the Housing Needs Assessment will help inform decisions that improve housing affordability, accessibility and supply. It also positions Georgina to better leverage funding opportunities through federal programs like the Canada Community-Building Fund and the Housing Accelerator Fund.

Timelines

  • Initial engagement: December 2024 – January 2025
  • Findings and recommendations: Spring 2025

Community engagement opportunities

Let’s talk housing: How we engaged the community

To help shape the Housing Needs Assessment, the Town of Georgina engaged with residents, stakeholders and community partners through a variety of activities. These conversations were essential in identifying local housing challenges and priorities.

  • Community drop-in sessions
Residents were invited to attend local sessions to share their housing experiences, challenges and ideas in person.
  • Online community survey
An online survey gathered insights from residents and visitors about their housing needs and concerns.
  • Stakeholder focus groups
Service providers, housing organizations and private sector stakeholders participated in targeted discussions to explore challenges and identify potential solutions.
  • Conversations with priority populations
Through partnerships with local organizations, the Town connected with groups such as seniors, youth and individuals experiencing housing insecurity to ensure their voices were reflected in the assessment.
