Frequently asked questions

Why is Sutton getting a new park?

As Georgina’s population continues to grow, the Town is looking to develop a new neighbourhood park in Sutton to meet the needs of present and future residents. A neighbourhood park was planned as part of the subdivision design.

Where is the new park going to be located?

The Julia Munro Park is planned to be a destination park to serve residents within a one-to-three kilometre radius in the northwest Sutton Development Area. The land allocated for the park site is approximately five hectares, and is bounded by Timberbank Square and residential properties to the south, a storm water facility to the west and regionally significant woodlands to the north and east.

What will be included in the new Julia Munro Park?

The park may include junior and senior playgrounds, water play, multi-use court(s), open play area, trails and passive open space. Parking and path lighting is also a consideration. Public open houses in the fall of 2018 were held to obtain feedback before consultants proceed to the detailed design.

What will it cost to build this new park?

Julia Munro Park (Sutton Community Park) is part of growth and therefore subject to Development Charges funding up to 90 per cent. Council approved the construction budget of $1.4 million during 2019 capital budget deliberations. Additional funding was approved during the 2020 capital budget deliberations for a total project budget of $2,231,450. This budget amount covers consulting fees as well as construction of Julia Munro Park.

What is the timing of construction?

It is anticipated that construction will take place late 2020 and into 2021.
